PALpatch

The PALpatch is the recommended skin friendly attachment for the activPAL wearable. The ‘patches are available in two versions:

  • The standard version (3M 4076) rated for 14 days skin attachment (7-10 days in typical use case)
    • ~USD$1 per ‘patch
  • The premium BLUE version (3M 4578) rated for 28 days skin attachment (>14 days in typical use case)
    • ~USD$2 per ‘patch

The ‘patches are sold in packs of 100 with free shipping on 5+ packs. Contact sales@palt.com to order.

Skin Preparation

  1. skin should be unbroken, clean and dry
  2. excess hair can be clipped for better adhesion direct to skin
  3. clean area with warm soapy water and pat dry (alcohol wipes are not recommended). Let the area dry completely before ‘patch application. For sensitive skin, non-sting barrier preparations (alcohol-free, sting-free liquid films, e.g. Smith & Nephew SECURA No Sting Skin Prep or 3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film ) can be used. These dry quickly to create a transparent, breathable barrier. This layer blocks skin irritation while still allowing the ‘patch to stick firmly

Apply ‘patch

  1. roll on protective sleeve (to prevent adhesive residue contamination of the activPAL)
  2. trim sleeve
  3. apply sticker
  4. remove clear front liner from ‘patch
  5. place activPAL on adhesive island
  6. remove white rear liner
  7. place activPAL on an area of clean, dry, unbroken skin

Remove ‘patch

Safe Removal Technique (see notes below for additional options)

  1. Low and slow, the adhesive will release most easily with slow peeling
  2. gently lift one end of the ‘patch and peel back slowly, repeat at opposite end
  3. gently lift the activPAL and ‘patch, avoiding ripping or pulling upward to prevent skin irritatio

Note

  1. shortly after initial application, the ‘patch achieves maximum skin adhesion and extreme care should be taken when removing the ‘patch in the days following its application
  2. the premium BLUE ‘patch is designed for 7+ days wear, shorter wear protocols or fragile skin types should use the standard ‘patches
  3. a medical-grade, silicone-based, alcohol-free adhesive remover can be used to gently dissolve the adhesive and residue without tearing or irritating the skin. An alternative to the spray is to use wipes with the same alcohol-free mode of action e.g. Smith & Nephew REMOVE. A low-cost natural option, household oils (e.g. baby oil) can be applied and allowed to soak through the ‘patch and will soften the adhesive
  4. If using a remover, the activPAL sensor should be removed from the ‘patch first, then it is much easier to peel the ‘patch slowly back from one end along its length to remove
